How to befriend MD?

I have really strict MD who always finds some fault in anything I do. Shouted at me one evening and called me incompetent. His daughter who got a free job does no work at all doesn’t seem to be a problem but I am? Wondering how I can befriend the guy to get him off my back?

Not to be a dick, but befriending someone just to make them be nice to you is some beta ass shit man. Instead of trying to make him like you, I would suggest try and make your work as perfect as possible. Every time he complains about something write it down and make sure to never make that mistake again. Become so good that his complaints sound so dumb that other people can clearly see he is the problem (that won’t change him but at least you validate yourself in this fight).

Two options:

1. make him your daddy in law (she must call you daddy as well, otherwise it clearly won't work out)

2. be a bitch and only put in work so he's happy with your work

Find a common interest and become an expert on it. If yall don’t have one, ask around to find out what he likes doing and/or talking about the most. Research it until you know as much as him about it. Even if the topic is boring asf, you can trick your mind into liking it by rewarding yourself while doing it (eat your favorite foods, drink, opioids, idk whatever gives you a dopamine release).

Forcing yourself to like things just to make someone like you is perhaps the saddest thing I've ever heard. If the OP is making mistakes at work, which causes his MD to shout at him, he should focus on improving his work. If the MD is shouting at him just for the sake of it and not for a legitimate reason, he should just tolerate it and look to lateral asap. No need to take the MD's shouting seriously, It's quite funny to see someone shout at you for no reason. Also, there's no point in comparing himself to his MD's daughter, as she will always receive preferential treatment.

I'm probably missing the joke but, if you're being genuine, I would do a few things:

1) spend some time reviewing other work product that he's signed off on

2) find some intermediate layers to review your work before he gets it

3) request some time to sit with him to walk through the shit he keeps ripping apart, show him you're interested in learning and not just wasting his time
