Study tips for CFA L1

Recently signed up for CFA L1 and am using the Kaplan study package. I know this topic has already been talked about on this forum a little, but am wondering if anyone who passed can offer study tips. I sit in 4 months, and am planning to finish the Kaplan material about a month before the exam to have time for plenty of practice tests and studying formulas. Does this sound right? Would also love to hear thoughts on how to retain this massive amount of information. Thanks!
