Absolutely non-target for PE
Could you please help me navigate how to get into MF/UMM deal teams? My target funds are SL, TB, Apollo, KKR, and BS.
Background: I am a 24yo female who graduated in 2020 from a university in Moldova. I completed 1 year of trading at UBS in London and received an offer from Goldman IBD in 2019 (Warsaw office). However, I turned it down and opted for consulting as it provided an opportunity for relocation to NY. Currently, I have spent 4 years at McK and work as a manager at the McK NY office, mainly focusing on private equity in software. (Yes, I worked full-time during undergrad and now have 5 years of work experience.)
My dream has always been to work in private equity, but this industry wasn't available in my home country. Now that I am in New York, I am still uncertain about how to navigate the recruiting process. While I am confident in my ability to pass interviews (I can do a full 3-statement LBO in 2.5 hours), for some reason, recruiters seem unwilling to give me interviews.
Do you have any ideas on how I should navigate my situation?

2. 2.5 hrs is too slow
3. Need to get some more realistic expectations

People aren't going to focus on your background if you frame your resume right - if you're now a manager at McKinsey in NYC, that's going to stand out the most.
The bigger issue is that consulting manager isn't a typical feeder for megafund PE. Most funds don't target consultants, and the ones that do tend to hire 1-3 years in, same as banking. The manager title will stand out despite your age.
Networking is, of course, the best solution to increase odds when coming from outside. Are there any funds you've worked with directly on engagements that know you and could serve as a warm introduction?
Otherwise, I would suggest expanding your search to MM funds that hire consultants, of which there are quite a few.

Lol claiming you work at McKinsey doing "private equity consulting" yet have no idea that all of the target funds you've listed don't hire consultants...ok bud. Also there's no way you're a manager at McK (assuming you meant EM) with only 4 years of working there and no b-school.

Not sure how it works to recruit at the specific funds you mention, but there are folks from Moldova in PE, incl. one in my fund. Look them
up and chat with them, see if smth happens. Tbh I don’t fully get why you focus on those names only… Good luck!
