Advice Please! MM PE Analyst

Hello all,

Currently an incoming MM PE analyst from a nontarget going to firm with a latest fund of $2.5B and have realized that I am not interested in the industry and investment style of this PE firm. How do I approach recruitng? Do i aim for on cycle or off-cycle and is this move possible?

Would focus on getting deal reps and deal experience at your firm. Coming from a PE analyst background you need to be more polished to get the looks you want during interviewing given the non-traditional background. Would focus on off-cycle as firms tend to be more open to different backgrounds.

Second and probably more important point is I find it super hard to know what you like to and don’t like regarding PE investing before you get there. Industry I can maybe understand particularly if it’s super niche or areas people find classically boring FIG, etc. Would really make sure you don’t enjoy what the firm does before you have one foot out the door.
