Banking -> PE -> Banking (Updated views?)

I remember reading a good thread several years ago on moving to PE then boomeranging back to banking. I wanted to see if anyone had updated views on this, especially given the current environment. On a personal level, I’m starting to get some anxiety about the move and wondering if it was the right choice.

Some background on my situation:
I’m an A2A that is signed on to go to a well-known PE fund in NY, focused on a particular sector that I’ve ended up specializing in.

I’m having doubts for two reasons.
1) I have a pretty good set up at my current bank (small but growing team, I’m one of the longer tenured members and have a good relationship with my MD who is pretty chill all things considered, hours are pretty decent, pay is on par with top EBs). I decided to make the move because the work of banking has gotten a bit monotonous (making the same old pages, re-training people) and I feel like my rate of learning has significantly slowed down.

2) I’m honestly not sure I’ll be any good at investing. I feel like the environment is less forgiving and more cutthroat in PE. Not saying I see myself becoming some great MD sales person either, but I don’t know that I can hold my own in the modeling and debate in PE.

Any updated views from others who have gone to PE then back to banking? Or who considered it but then stayed in PE?
