Chances of M7
Hi all,
As a brief background: I am currently a second year analyst at a LMM PE fund. I was able to gain part time PE experience throughout my time at college (~3.6 @ a semi-target). After that, I went into MM PE out of undergrad.
I have been thinking about an MBA in the future. My end goal is probably to stay in MM PE long term. Would an MBA even be beneficial? Do I have decent chances at M7 or better to shoot for T15? I haven’t read much on the subject so please pardon my ignorance
Thanks all for reading/time.
Ignore title, haven't changed it. I am a senior associate at an MM PE firm, who got the promote from an associate.
If your goal for your MBA is to move to a similar-sized PE firm as your previous experience, I think you'd have more luck just waiting for a better market and trying to lateral + that won't put you down 200+k for HSW which is what you'd need for the same outcome through an MBA. These days more and more LMM/MM's are straight promoting their associates to senior associates or are hiring senior associate hires. Ik some of the larger MFs and some UMMs only take MBAs, but if you're shooting for LMM/MM, it's better to just grind it out as an associate imo.
