Was at a top MM and received emails from all top head-hunters—I think this website obsesses over splitting hairs when really if you are at basically any firm listed on this website recruiters will likely want to find a place to place you. Also, from experience, friends that went to MM’s versus BB’s versus EB’s weren’t exactly different calibers of candidates. Really it was more random.

Once you actually recruit it might matter more, but also anecdotally, as long as you are at a decent shop they aren’t going to split hairs between like Jefferies and Baml, what will matter more is the school you went to, GPA, and standardized test scores as well as the modeling test and headhunter impression.

I would say that there is truth about coming from a “top group.” I am in arguably the top coverage group on the street for my industry. I targeted MFs and UMMs that had an industry group for my industry. I knew my group gave me direct second-round interviews, and a couple places that my group historically places into have a reserved spot for someone from my group. Had headhunters also mention to me that my group was a high priority. Kinda silly in my opinion that where I was placed as a sophomore bumbling around campus has an effect, but this was my experience.

I'm also curious, especially regarding the smaller HHs - I'm at one of ones above in London (US citizen trying for US GE/VC) and they never reached out to me, so I had to reach out to them. For those I registered for but didn't get intro chats for, should I keep following up to try to get an intro chat? Or will they reach for an intro chat only when they have an opportunity they might consider me for?

I'm worried I'm not being considered for roles from HHs I haven't had intro chats with.
