Hg Capital NYC - Thoughts?

Hey guys,

Wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts are on Hg Capital’s NYC office? I know they’re in the process of raising a $14bn+ fund, but am also aware it’s EU focused.

Any insight would be helpful. Thank you!

They are probably the closest analogue there is a Vista / Thoma of Europe. A lot of their core focus of enterprise software is the same although they seem to have a different process as they struck me as very research oriented and thesis driven. But I think, like Vista and Thoma, they have a small, midmarket, and large fund (although I know Thoma has grown past that) so the core DNA of the firm is LBO enterprise software. I don't know what their returns are but that's that structure is a pretty good recipe for growth because you're getting exposure to different types of software investing (you see different challenges with smaller vs. mid sized vs. large companies), and I also think the broad exposure up and down market within one sector is useful perspective / personal development.
