How important is deal experience?

Dear esteemed members of the WSO Community,

How important is deal experience for career versatility in finance? I've spent two years as a PE Analyst in Southeast Asia (with a small decent firm) after a year in Big4 TAS post-bachelor's. Despite my three years of work experience, I have yet seen any NBOs in my life, which raises concerns about my experience and whether I should switch to investment banking for more deal exposure.

The lack of deals have their own reasons
- companies struggling to exit due to market conditions
- the companies that do exit are not the companies I am in charge of
- as a result, I spend 70% of my time doing portfolio management. The remaining 30% are mostly answering IRLs post signing NDA, updating existing IMs and models (handover from previous asso), other ad-hoc stuff

BBIBs in my country primarily focus on coverage, have lean team sizes, and hire infrequently—usually only when an analyst or associate leaves. Recently, I've received an offer from a regional non-BBIB firm that involves both execution and coverage. However, it offers little to no chance of transferring to the Singapore branch. Additionally, the IB team at this bank recently restructured, and friends have advised me to wait for a better opportunity (though it's unclear when that might arise).

Any advice or perspectives on this situation? Thank you!
