How to ask for more carry

I work in a small renewables fund where a senior principal has recently left the team. I have carried interest in the fund however its a very small allocation. I was an analyst when I was allocated the carry and have since been promoted to associate. We have not made any significant investments and so not much capital has been called - the fund is early in the lifecycle.

Suggestions on how to ask for more carry? I think the best approach is around how the carry is now available and that I am an associate and would therefore like a higher allocation in this fund.

The senior management is pretty reasonable and I doubt they would be pissed off just because I asked.
