London IB/PE Off Cycle and Grad Recruit

Hi guys,

I recently finished my BB IBD Summer in Hong Kong and received return offer, but I still want to move back to UK and start my junior years in London, given better exposure and learning here.

I thought it would be slightly easier because of my summer at a top-tier BB IBD, well at least get some interviews. I understand that bankers here don't value HK experience that much, but still, it's kinda frustrating that I still receive no interviews now.

Would like to seek some advice here, thanks!

It’s going to be another tough year for recruitment, simple as that I’m afraid.

You could have the best CV out there, banks just don’t need the headcount at the moment.

Seems like you got a strong CV but the problem this year is that there aren't really any FT positions to apply for. Doesn't matter how strong your CV is if never get an opportunity to show it. Out of the somewhat reputable banks, I think it's just Evercore, Deutsche Bank and Barclays recruiting for FT this year.

PE recruiting is even more difficult. If you look at MF / UMM / MM PE in London you have maybe 10-20 analyst positions in corporate PE per year. A lot of those are internship conversions and the ones who are not are often diversity / female recruits. Would say that you have maybe 2-5 positions a year for PE analysts in London at MF / UMM / MM that aren't internship conversions in Corporate PE if you aren't diversity / female. Super difficult to get those positions so I would definitely consider other options as well.

Banks will hire normally for OC recruitment.

If you "only" have one summer in HK, your experience is a bit light
