M1 mac Excel Compaitablitiy

Hi All,

I have been working in IB PE industry from 2020. I have been using Windows specifically Razer Blade for most of my work. But currently I'm interested in buying M1 mac for battery life and performance

Usage:Mostly excel   - LBO, VBA some RE and Presentations in Power Point.

Research thesis - Word

data analytics (some research  and trading for my personal portfolio using Python)

and a bit of Indesign (for brochures and presentations).

Is it a good idea to go for M1 Mac?

Any thoughts and suggestions.

If someone can highlight issues faced while running Excel on bootcamp(?) and/ or parallels.

No problems so far with using excel (and I’ve had a non-M1 Mac for a few years)

Excel works on Mac, even all the Apple corporate employees use the Microsoft office package. It is a testament to the quality.
Having said that....

- you'd either have to rebind all keys to use the same shortcuts as Windows
- even then, some shortcuts wouldn't work
- alternatively get an external keyboard that is programmable or has QMK
Format of the output should be the same and also work across the team though. It gets a bit funny with fonts, they don't exist across systems. Most errors are due to missing font or formatting styles and the files look different.

When I started working at Apple I had never used a Mac before... it took forever to learn all the shortcuts or how the system even works. And I am very technically inclined, I can fix any car, anything around the house, even built my own computers for years. It still took forever to figure out MacOS. I have been using MacOS for approximately 11 years now and I still have to google how to do stuff at times. Peripherals and their settings are tricky too, an external screen can not be controlled through MacOS i.e.

replacing my gpu and upgrading my ram later today, is there anything I should keep in mind during the installation process or is it pretty straight forward?

Ground yourself before/during the installation, don't use any force when installing anything. If unsure, there is 100% a youtube video showing the right angles and movements.

clean the PC before you are installing anything, it is a good opportunity.

make sure to open any latches or clamps before pulling the old parts.

RAM might be in paired slots, your mainboard manual will tell you why/how.

you would also have to replace the thermal compound on the CPU.

update your BIOS before you do any of this, if there is an update.
