Military --> LMM PE --> MBA --> ???
Monkeys,
Per the forum title, looking for advice on how to best navigate my current situation. Back in UG, was a summer analyst at GS TMT (NYC), and at a HF (~5bn AUM). Graduated, and joined the military. Currently, I am a pre-MBA associate at a LMM PE firm (absolutely phenomenal learning experience so far) and will be attending a top MBA program this fall (think Harvard/Stanford/Wharton). Will have ~6 months of experience at this LMM firm prior to starting my MBA.
Initially, I was not sure whether or not I wanted to even go into finance/IB/anything on the buy side. However, I am finding the work I am doing incredibly fascinating. As such, how can I best position myself for PE recruiting? My understanding is that, as stated many times on this forum (and by the partners at my firm) that a lack of PE experience prior to business school is a deal breaker. However, I think my resume might just be unique enough for a firm to take a gamble on me. Any concrete steps I can take?
Any suggestions appreciated. If the PE plan doesn't work out, I am planning on doing IB recruiting and hopefully transitioning to PE later down the line.
