Move from IB to REPE
Hey everyone,
For context I currently work as an investment banking analyst at a small shop here in Paris
I have just received an offer to work for a real estate developer helping manage their investment pipeline
It is my first foray into the industry, would this be a good move (I do want to move to the buyside but don’t want to rush into it). And is it seen as beneficial/ a hindrance to work for a developer who has an investment arm than a straight investment management company
Any things to keep in mind?
Merci
Do you want to work in RE? REPE/Dev is an all together different asset class than Corp PE, so unless you are looking to go into RE then I wouldn't take it. If you wanted to get into the buyside of real assets than working at a developer is a great start. REPE and dev aren't that different and it's an easy switch to move from Dev to REPE afterwards if you prefer to just stick to the numbers and not worry about the ground up DD.
The things to keep in mind if you choose RE is that Dev is much more in the weeds and asset focused, whereas REPE is focused on the pure finance aspect more often. REPE is looked at as more of a pure finance role and Dev is looked at as a great place to learn about RE and potentially do your own deals in the future.
