Moving from a developing country to work at a Candian PE firm
I am currently a 1st year analyst at a small PE firm, based in a developing country. We have a lot of projects in the pipeline, and I am expecting to have ~$900M worth of buyside acquisition experience at the end of my two years. While I am blessed to have a job like this in my country, I do not want to spend all my 20s here.
Canada seems to be one of the few developed nations that have lenient immigration policies. My plan is to gain 2 years of work experience, move to Canada to do an MBA (which will grant me a 3 year work pass) and work at a PE firm after graduation.
However, I realise that there are way fewer PE firms in Canada as compared to countries like the U.S.
Would it be very difficult for me to join a PE firm in Canada post-MBA?
Would being an immigrant make it tougher (assuming I have work pass)?
Would graduating from a top MBA like Rotman increase my chances?
Curious to hear if anyone can relate to this. Any advice is appreciated.
Depends what country you are coming from and the quality of fund you were at. If it's like the middle east or something it isn't going to be helpful, unfortunately.
