MSD Partners

Anyone have any insight into MSD partners? Specifically the credit strategy - what kind of deals they’re focused on? Comp, WLB, etc.? Anything would be appreciated - website was pretty thin on details. Seems like some good hires recently but one observation was that people with a fair amount of experience still coming in as analysts.

Yes I have interviewed with them and had friends work there over the years. Back then it really was like Dell’s family office and just managing his investment portfolio / helping him make more money. Now I think since they brought in the GS Lemkau guy and merged with BDT or whatever it’s becoming more of a mainstream financial institution with outside clients it seems.

my recollection of credit at the time was that they just raised a new fund or were about to do so and were looking to deploy it. They didn’t seem to focused on one particular sub-sector within credit at the time from what I remember. Comp and everything else like WLB seemed good since it was like a family office then

good luck

Can you provide a bit of color on their credit strat? Curious why legit (aside from size from dell)

The title structure in credit is analyst and principle. That’s why there are folks with a lot of experience coming in as analysts.

Random but my dad is a CEO for one of their portcos after working in F500 for a long time, and they've been great. On the equity side they incentivize management more fairly than most PE shops.
