NYC PE Associate Commute
How far are folks commuting / where do you live / how do you feel about it? Would be helpful to hear how many days you are in as well.
Wondering if truly useful to live 5 mins away as I did in banking.

I didn’t live close, I valued 2 walk in closets and no roommates in an amenities building. And personally didn’t feel like it mattered. If you stay late grab a car, I never go in on weekends anymore that shit died with Covid
Used to live 5 min from the office but then moved to the UWS and love it. It’s nice to have some separation from where you work and live. Commute is 15 min (this obv depends on where you work), although it can be longer if the 1,2,3 or R,W trains aren’t working. It feels like I have my personal space away from the office and just helps me keep my sanity even if I’m still working 12 hrs /day. What I like about the UWS is that it’s very neighborhood-ly … families, Central Park, small businesses, good restaurants, etc. People are generally a little more down to earth than UES.

Would definitely not live right by the office - it's nice mentally to have that separation, a stop or two on the train is a great way to unwind a bit
Exact neighborhood is dependent on your preferences/commute - UWS and UES are quieter if you're over the going out scene + you will get more space. Think WV/Tribeca will still be out of the price range, but Chelsea is nice too
I'd try to stay on the same side (east/west) as your work and avoid a walk over 10 min to subway, or having to transfer. But a 5 min walk to subway + 2 or 3 stops + 5 min walk is a very nice commute
I'll be lateraling to NYC soon, when it's raining / snowing etc..., how do you reach the subway without making a mess of yourself? Do you just Uber straight the office?
I've always lived somewhere with cars so a bit unfamiliar.
TIA
