PE in Austin, TX
Who are the best funds in Austin? Would appreciate thoughts on Peak Rock, Tritium, Blue Sage, Centergate, and Presidio, as well as any other firms in the city.

Career Resources
You probably already know but definitely Vista as well, by far the largest
Peak Rock is by far the best traditional LBO shop in Austin
Vista is a megafund, the most famous of any Austin shop by far but niche focus
Tritium is by far the best growth equity shop in Austin with Austin Ventures background
Don't know the others
Peak Rock has a tremendous amount of turnover because the senior guys are pricks. They've been able to raise several funds, but have plenty of crap in the portfolio.
CenterGate are nice people, but struggle in auctions. I can't imagine comp is great because of how many heads there are and how small the portfolio is.
Blue Sage has a pretty good rep, but I haven't had any personal experience with them.
There are better ways to find HF these days. There are free databases you can find if you can prove accreditation that will provide more than preqin. I'd look there.
Hey quickly wondering what free databases you’d recommend for vetting HFs in various locations? Post was 3 years ago but would mean a lot. Thanks!
Pretty sure Parthenon Capital opened an office in Austin at some point last year. Larger fund than Peak Rock, but haven't heard anything about culture.
Can't imagine comp being above 200k at any of these shops right? Maybe Vista is like 230-250k...
Two names to add to the list:
Cotton Creek Capital
Strattam Capital - enterprise software
Can you tell me more about Cotton Creek Capital - How is it viewed etc.?
Safe to assume comp is >$200k at the MM funds. Obviously same goes for Vista.
fellow analyst interviewed there. I think its a fairly standard LMM shop that mostly takes from solid MM IB shops like RJ/HW/WF. looks like VPs joined as ASOs, so there seems to be a career track pipeline. feels not very top heavy which could be great for WLB.
Tritium Partners is a very solid shop. Some of the nicest people as well. Old investors of Homeaway
