Private Equity Work Hours for VP's and up

Do work hours get better as you increase in rank in Private Equity? Do VP's/Directors have more consistent hours/less hours than associates? How does it differ for MM vs MF? Say I'm 35 with a kid is there WLB at that level?

In short, at least for MF / UMM PE, the answer is no. Sure you won’t be pulling together a model late into the night, but you’re the first line of defense to put out any and all fires at portfolio companies and expected to lead the charge / be the point of contact for new deals (not even mentioning random admin / internal work that gets kicked down to you). This inevitably means long hours and high stress, as well as being always available. Crucial to make sure you work for a Partner / MD that isn’t a micromanager or your life will be even worse.

But hey, stick around for a few years and you can start collecting some nice carry checks
