Graduated from a semi-target (UVA/Northwestern/USC), solid GPA, about to start at top EB group (EVR/MOE/PJT). Heard basically only HYPWS get PE jobs regardless of group - is this true?

Yeah this is objectively false. Maybe at really snooty places it'll make a marginal difference but IMO once you're at a true EB like the listed banks, PE shops will really want you regardless. Good luck!
not true at all. At EVR/MOE/PJT, you are in an amazing position to get into PE if you're prepared for on-cycle. Just look at the analysts above you and you'll see

Everyone has already said this - you're fine man. Marginal difference in outcomes, many many seats are out there for you. Whoever told you that is either lying or wildly misinformed.
