Why go into PE at all if you want to exit?

Why go into banking at all if you want to exit? The entire goal of 90%+ of people in this industry is gaining skills you can leverage for a better opportunity down the line.

"The obedient always think of themselves as virtuous rather than cowardly" - Robert A. Wilson | "If you don't have any enemies in life you have never stood up for anything" - Winston Churchill | "It's a testament to the sheer belligerence of the profession that people would rather argue about the 'risk-adjusted returns' of using inferior tooth cleaning methods." - kellycriterion

Firms both have strong reps in the MM/UMM as consultant-friendly NYC firms, but end up playing in different processes. Feel like it comes down to industry preference. If you want to do consumer/retail I’d choose Sycamore given their focus, portfolio and recent processes they been involved in. If you want business services or industrials I’d choose AEA. Their consumer team is solid as well, but plays in much smaller processes/company sizes and has a smaller consumer portfolio. If you’re industry agnostic you can’t go wrong with either imo
