Transferring to an Ivy from T20?

Currently a rising sophomore at a T20 school (non-target non-ivy). I'm hoping to get into the top buyside firms like BX, KKR out of undergrad - which I've heard is near impossible if you aren't HYPSM/Wharton. I know that my transfer won't have any impact on my junior summer recruiting, but I'm wondering

  1. if it'd make a worthwhile difference for FT

  2. if not, what the bull/base case would be from a T20 school for buyside recruiting (strong GPA, solid resume)

  3. what things i need to be doing if I did want to recruit to top firms (beside techs)

I realize this may come off presitgewhore-ish which is partly true but really I just want to do well. Any advice would be much appreciated thank you !

partial diversity btw

Give us more of a hint regarding what school you mean by T20.

Because US News will rank a school like NYU or Georgetown low at 20 while each are like top 5 for IB placement and very strong in other categories.

Side note — don’t transfer solely for professional reasons. Many other factors to consider such as school fit, financial aid / scholarships, etc.

If this is UC Berkeley or UMich, don’t bother transferring because they can still get you to top firms if you are smart enough. UCLA is slightly lower but is still a great spot to be in. Truthfully, SA spots at KKR/Bx are next to impossible if you are non diversity, even at targets. And if you are really solid at a “public ivy” you will get looks from BB/EB, MBB, and perhaps some solid buy side stuff as well.

Also something to add is that if you are in top clubs/business frats at these schools, you can seriously level the playing field. For example Berkeley and UMich have some insane BFrats and Investment clubs with top tier placements.

yes to kkr—they won’t even look your way if you’re nondiverse. Off the mark for BX, they don’t care too much about diversity for BCP (from my experience recruiting there)—not sure about BREP, BREDS, etc. The reason the junior SAs at BX are almost always diverse is because you need the recommendation of someone very senior (think group head) to get a soph summer at an EB/BB as nondiverse, and that’s a prerequisite for a junior summer at BX.
