Vector Capital - Updated 2024 Thoughts?
Haven’t seen a thread about this firm in a while - for reference I’m an analyst at a lower ranked BB interested in the firm. I’ve heard they have pretty good b-school placement and HF placement, but wanted to get thoughts on it from the WSO community!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, Vector Capital has been discussed in the context of being a value-oriented tech shop with a presence in the Bay Area. As of the last update in 2020, there was interest in understanding more about Vector Capital's reputation, culture, compensation, and career track. While specific details about business school placement and hedge fund placement were not directly mentioned in the context provided, it's common for firms with a strong reputation and solid track record in the industry to have good placement records for their analysts and associates in competitive next steps, including top business schools and hedge funds.
Given your interest as an analyst at a lower-ranked bulge bracket bank, focusing on Vector Capital's known strengths could be beneficial. Their involvement in value-oriented tech investments and possibly distressed situations, as inferred from the context, suggests a robust platform for developing analytical and investment skills. This experience can be very appealing to both business schools and hedge funds, which often look for candidates with a strong background in value identification and operational improvements.
To get the most updated thoughts and specific insights into business school and hedge fund placements from Vector Capital, I'd recommend engaging directly with the WSO community through the forums. Posting a question or searching for recent threads related to Vector Capital could provide you with firsthand accounts from current or former employees, which would be invaluable in your research and decision-making process.

Completely wack. Haven't heard a single good thing about Vector. The culture is awful and extremely toxic, turnover has been off the charts. Recommend you investigate recent returns and if they're horrible. Going down fast

Can you elaborate on this? Older posts seem to be more positive, wanted to check where disconnect was (without getting too specific).
Know them from both ops side and investment side very closely. Old fashioned but invest in tech. Operating partners that I’ve had fairly close interaction with over an extended period are really not good. Investment team screws management teams regularly more so than average buyout shops. Have done cool transactions but that’s it. Turnover has been remarkably high at associate to principal level over last 24 months. Would avoid, won’t share more for sake of anonymity but have stories. From IB side my seniors who know them from past shops don’t look at them favorably including from a returns POV over last few years
