Associate, assistant, junior (vp or director)…i could be wrong but in my experience its just a flashier way to say associate. I have buddies in ER went from associate to AVP (associate is ers analyst).

I know a banker who went from A3 to associate Director and i know a Junior director of sales which is basically a step above entry level for him but gives him credit when presenting i suppose.

My older friends that are 10+ years above me agree these seem like ways to justify paying younger talent less and slowing down promotions. AVP especially is the biggest offender here across several industries unless its the AVP to the singluar VP at a company. Basically there isn’t a difference in general but case by case there could be.

There's so much title inflation/ title confusion in real estate. Don't get too caught up in your title. What are your responsibilities and what is your comp? Those are the important questions. I have seen countless "Directors / MD's / Principals" that have 2 - 5 years of experience and I have seen associates with 7+ years at some of the big shops that are beating comp on a good amount of VP's
