D/E Brokerage in Canada
I’ve noticed that within Canada there are very few of the large brokerages that have d/e teams in each office and that it’s typically handled by a few team members spread across the country.
Compared to the number of investment sales brokers this seems a bit odd - is the market just smaller or is it relatively underserved compared to investment sales?
A follow-up question is how does the comp, wlb, and potential exits compare to working for one of the banks on their real estate commercial banking teams?
Coming from someone who misses the sellside but doesn’t want to get shafted on splits on a large IS team (not to mention lack of transactions for the next while).
Thanks in advance.
I actually asked this same exact question to someone at a major brokerage and they said that because of Canada's lack of capital sources the need for debt brokers is just limited, which also applies to construction loans and overall development.
I also am curious about comp and WLB.
Makes sense for debt - way fewer lenders compared to the US. Any insight on equity brokerage?
