Deploying personal capital

I’m a Canadian student looking to explore REPE career opportunities in the US. I’ve had 3 x 4-month internships at MM Canadian IB firms and learned quite a bit working in product and industry coverage groups.
Did not get a return offer from my last internship due to slow deal flow, inexperience compared to other interns in my group (they had multiple internships in the same group before me), and my odd graduation timeline. I’m not too hard pressed by this because I didn’t want to do IB but I want to learn more about REPE in the States - I ultimately want to do personal RE investing there (but want to first learn before I in jump head first).
For me, the impetus for RE is typical and boils down to the ability to have control over the asset and drive value myself rather than passively owning shares of companies I have no control over.
I’ve been able to scrape together about C$500K and would want to co-invest into the REPE funds and have a piece of the pie I’m working on. Unfortunately, I see most large funds require accredited investors (Net worth >$1M + Yearly income >$200K) - obviously I do not meet this threshold. I also feel like a larger firm would be harder to learn and progress in - which is my main goal in this journey.
So I’m curious if anyone knows of smaller REPE firms in the US that take non-accredited investors and hire entry level analysts!
Thanks for taking the time to read :)

Thx for the response. Read through all your posts and they are quite helpful.

My main reason for wanting to work for a more established company is to get citizenship through them.

After reading your posts - which city are you going to move to next? I know you mentioned you want to go to a tier 2 city now - would that be something like Columbus or Indy?
