Finance position to real estate?

I have a question. I am currently at a top investment bank in their financial control group. This position is considered "back office". I was previously in Operations and even got a Certificate in Real Estate Development through the Urban Land Institute to show I'm interested in the real estate industry. I have a few contacts in the industry but want to know how hard would it be to transfer to a development analyst or financial analyst position? I see a lot on here how back office doesn't have good exit ops so I just wanted to get some guidance.

Thanks

This is what I usually tell people in your position - don't bother trying. Stick to what your're doing because the transition usually won't be worth the effort.

Sucks, I know, but the grass isn't always greener and the RE business is not as sexy as it may seem.

I appreciate the response. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time now and possibly do as a career. I don't see myself staying at a bank my whole life. Why do you say it's not worth it? Are you trying to say it will be hard to get a real estate position?

Thanks

Its very difficult to secure an entry-level position nowadays. Candidates are extremely well-qualified - relevant re exp during college, re coursework, self-taught modelling skills, professional polish, connections in the business, etc.

When we were recruiting last year, we interviewed nearly 50 candidates for 4 analyst spots, all of them well-qualified.

Gotcha, yeah I've noticed that too. Don't want to sound stubborn, I get what you're saying. I'm going to try and do cold applying and connections I've made in the industry over the last few years. If that doesn't work, I'll try after I get an MBA. Thanks.
