How do you find out what titles mean for big bank real estate investment firms?

For the past few months I've been working with small-to-medium private equity real estate shops. Their chain of command is pretty straight-forward, CEO, CFO, Investment relations, analyst, etc...

What I don't understand is the positions at some of the BBs. It seems insanely different than the SME market. Morgan Stanley for example has multiple managing directors. I'm curious to who is in charge of what and how to know the differences between them.
