Should new job pay for moving expenses/moving bonus?

Is it common for real estate junior roles, say associate positions, for them to pay for your lease cancellation, movers, etc, or provide some sort of moving bonus if you are moving cities?

Is it only the very large corporate firms or REITs, or is it even the norm at all to provide something?

At the associate level, it is not common at all. Possibly a moving bonus of some sort, but that's about it.

The more you move up, the more is expected.

Junior level not at all common even at some big firms, unless they recruited you instead of you applying to them. If they recruited them that should of been the first question to them. Even senior positions if you should negotiate for that.

With the turn in the job market over the last 18months, barely any will relocate people especially associate or below.

If they don't typically and they are giving you a sign on bonus you should negotiate that upwards.

If you're coming from school I'd ask at least. I was pretty dead broke and did a quick summary of reasonable costs to move (movers, SD+ Rent, Basics), you kind of need 10k liquid which I sure as hell wasn't after grad school. If it's in NYC I feel like you're at least 15-20k minimum just to move with 1st/last month rent BS and the fact that your paycheck is gonna be usually delayed a pay cycle.

I couldn’t imagine asking someone while only at the associate level to give me $25k to move to New York. Either they’d like the balls and how you’re a dreamer or would just rescind your offer I feel like lol.

I would just do the math on the move and ask them to fund it, especially if you're coming as a student. $15k is nothing in the grand scheme of things, 15k is pursuit dollars on a deal.

First Month Rent + Last Month Rent + SD - $9k

Moving Costs - $2k

First Half Month Delayed Paycheck - $4k

$15k to move

Tailor your numbers but I don't think it would be unreasonable but idk
