Using an MSRE for Fundraising/Syndication?
Long time casual viewer of the RE form here.
Curious if anyone has feedback on using an MSRE degree (or equivalent) as a launch pad into entrepreneurship including syndications and eventually launching a fund. My understanding is these degrees are typically used as a tool for pivoting into CRE or advancing within a company.
Thinking of a Columbia/Cornell/NYU with the goals of 1) tapping into the NYC real estate network, and 2) getting the "respectable graduate degree" box checked for the institutional groups that care.
Context: I have over 6 YOE with development/acquisition roles in the sunbelt and looking a couple years ahead.
I have two classmates who I know used their time at a MRED program to raise money, albeit for projects and not a fund.
I would be weary of that though. With 6 years of experience, you're already going to know more than your classmates and what is being taught to you at the program. Not sure the value would be there for you.
