How to write resume bullets if M&A runs the model on my deals (coverage group)

Hi everyone, looking for some general advice as I begin the PE / Growth Equity recruiting process. I am in a pretty solid BB coverage group that has great deal flow, so I have been fortunate enough to get solid deal experience as a 1st year Analyst. Unfortunately, the M&A group runs with a lot of the model on sell-sides, so I have a few questions on how to approach this for my resume / in interviews.

  • Is it common for M&A to run with the model at other BBs
  • How do I go about writing about these deals on my resume if I didn't really do much with the model (even though I can talk about the model, drivers, input, etc.)? Do other folks in this scenario say they worked on the model? Note, I am able to do DCFs, standard LBO modeling tests, etc. and have run models on various other deals (mostly debt focused stuff).
  • As an extension to the second question, how would I discuss this in an interview? I want to be truthful, but also want to be a good candidate.

Any insight on how to approach this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone.

  • I know that JPM has its own M&A group, but Barclays does modeling in each coverage group. It's specific to each BB
  • You can run your own model alongside the main one just for the purpose of being able to take ownership of a model. It might seem a little untruthful if your group didn't run the model and you come off as if you run it yourself, but I think it would be completely fine to run your own analysis alongside the main one and be upfront about that. No one is ever going to fault you for wanting to learn more and being proactive about it...
  • "My bank has its own M&A group that handles the models. To better improve my technical skillset, I run my own model alongside it to get more reps in."
