LaTeX for Resumes/Cover Letters?

Anyone besides me prefer the cleaner-looking typeset that LaTeX has that MS Word doesn't? I've noticed many people hate the look of the default TeX font (though changeable with the various package settings). Why is that? The document runs faster and everything tends to be more perfectly aligned than many Word resumes (since with TeX, most don't use a WYSIWYG-based environment).

IMO, LaTex looks amazing. Great for papers and CVs. The only issue is getting others to help edit your resume if they don't know the syntax...

I know about at leat two versions of CV's that follow the M&I's template, but both have problems: once has different font sizes in different sections and the other can't have bullets in the education section and I can't change it
