Resume Advice (Relocation)

Hey there,

I've spent my 6-year long finance career (2 years sell side equity research, 4 years in buy side) in an emerging market country (Turkey).

I am a US dual citizen, so I have no sponsorship issues. I want to relocate to the United States with wife and daughter and land a job in finance there. I'm 29.

My resume (naturally) has a Turkish address on it and an international phone number. It clearly states my willingness to relocate to the United States and my citizenship status.

That aside, I am currently a minority partner/shareholder in an asset management company. I also work there in equity research. This is "inherited". Not my own success. Should the "Partner" go on the CV, or is that a bad idea? I don't want to misrepresent my status or abilities.

I've passed CFA Level 1, currently working on Level 2.

What are my chances in making this career transition? I'll do everything in my ability to make it happen. Should I "Relocate first, find a job later"?  Or should I spend all my savings on a 2-year MBA to make it easier to land a Wall Street job?

Thanks for the advice!

Put a US address that is local to the prospective employer on your CV (maybe relatives or something), get a VoIP number with a local area code (i.e. callcentric.com for NYC) and act as if you are local. I have done this multiple times and it works.
Start applying and if everything checks out, they may hire you. This does NOT work if

- you don't have the right to work in the US (but you do)
- you can not jump on a plane within a few hours notice, pricey tickets are the short term ones. you need a packed bag at all times.
- you have other issues that prevent frequent and quick travel to the US (i.e medical reasons, covid vaccinations, positive PCR test, etc)
- you will need a lot of time to relocate, since employers are assuming you are local and won't wait that long

This, however, does require an employer who is willing to understand your background and a foreign work history.

not sure about your inherited items, I will let others pitch in on that one.

This should work if you have citizenship which gives every right to pull it off like this.

I do not know how competitive of a candidate you are for the banks.

edit: A lot of employers also still allow many new starters to WFH 100%, so you might be in a lucky position to interview and start from Turkey! You can then relocate later.
