Are freshman/sophomore first semester grades the only grades for IB recruiting?

If most BBs/elite boutiques recruit in spring semester sophomore year, does that mean you essentially have 3 semesters' worth of grades? And if that's true, what about the rest of the 5 semesters? Can you kind of "slack off" (not terribly of course, like 3.3+)?
