College ideas??
Sibling is organizing initial list of undergrad schools to apply to. S/he plans to major in Finance (my recommendation) and wait to decide in a few years whether to pursue this route or law school instead. Current schools on list are mostly East / Midwest such as UMich, Wisco, BC, Lehigh, etc. Any similarly ranked schools in mind to add for UG business route?
Any stats? Bit of a wide range. Other schools to consider:
NYU, UVA, UNC, IU, Penn State
~4.0 and very involved: President of a couple academic clubs and captain of a sports team. Scored extremely well on PSATs pre-pandemic but is pushing to get the tests in in the next couple of months before early applications, given that it’s nearly certain to help the profile even though schools aren’t requiring test scores this year.
So nothing special. Unless he gets near perfect scores, he’s out of the running for the top schools (assuming he’s white or Asian) but Mich, UVA, Stern are all good reaches for him.
Could look into Villanova, Emory, Wake Forest, and Illinois as well
Maybe Berkeley?
Seems like a hard reach.
The PSAT indicated an SAT in the 1500s is definitely attainable if they can just get the test done this or next month, but yes the GPA is between a 4 and 4.1 at a school where the maximum is close to a 4.6 weighted with APs. I know the top top targets are out of reach, but the schools I provided give color as to the stats. Some smaller privates in BC, Lehigh, etc and some solid states in Mich, Wisco, UNC, UMD. Looking for a campus with solid placement that also may convince him/her that this is what they want to do for their career. Again, they still have law school in their mind as a possibility. Keep throwing any and all ideas please! Specifically inclined to eastern US as I’m from Northeast!

Honestly at these mid-tier schools I think the people who land good offers arent the one's that need to be convinced, but rather the kids who go in knowing that this is what they want to do and then go gunning for it, because it takes a lot of effort to even land an interview from there. Preparing for law school applications at the same time would make it even more challenging
I think those are solid choices for someone with strong numbers and decent extracurriculars but nothing extraordinary/no hooks. If a woman, that would be a hook if you are applying into business schools for finance so that could be a factor as well. Still worth looking into a few "super reach" schools if you have time/can afford to because why not, but I would focus at the BC/Michigan level schools in terms of realistic reaches. Is finances a concern at all? Would also look into UVA, UNC, UT Austin, Villanova, Berkeley, Georgetown(last two a bit tougher)
