extracurricular/internships high school students

I'm a high school sophomore in a specific finance based program. I really want to go into investment banking and attend umich. Does anyone know of any extracurricular/internships that would help with my application process? I could get one in PWE at my dad's work but nepotism.

Hey there, future finance whiz! It's great to see you're already thinking about your future in investment banking. Based on the most helpful WSO content, there are a few things you can do to boost your application process.

  1. Extracurricular Activities: Joining or even starting a finance or stock market club at your school can be a great way to demonstrate your interest and leadership skills. This can be a great discussion point in your interviews.

  2. Internships: While it's not as straightforward to secure an internship in corporate finance, it's definitely possible. You could ask your parents if they know anyone who could help you land a position. You could also reach out to your school’s alumni in this field, attend on-campus info sessions for corporations, or even reach out to startups and small companies in your hometown. If you're hardworking and the company needs help, they might just give you a shot!

  3. Networking: In finance, networking is one of the most efficient ways to get a job. Be persistent with emailing advisers, reaching out to firms, and so on.

  4. Technical Knowledge: You're not expected to know much at this stage, but subscribing to financial publications like the Wall Street Journal and checking it daily can help you stay informed and demonstrate your interest.

Remember, it's not just about what you know, but also about showing your passion and dedication. Good luck!
