Graduating Senior - Need Advice
Hello...im a graduating senior from a state school in va...as of right now i am an Economics major with an International Relations minor. My GPA is 3.2....and as of now im hitting 550-600 GMAT practice tests (taking test in 2 months)...
Experience:
Extern - Asset Management (wealth management/financial advising)
Intern - State Senator
Former Entrepreneur
-> Currently being considered for an undergraduate internship in Venture Captial (First Undergrad they have ever considered)
What are my chances for Investment Banking????????? I applied to over 100 trading firms and got rejected or were offered positions with no pay for 6 months (which i am skeptical of)...My goal is to be like Carl Ichan...i mean technically, he was a Pre-Med Student at Princeton...and dropped out of Med School..became an options broker and bought his first company....then build this empire...i want to do corporate take overs...my options are:
- Take a full time position with the Asset Management company-> They are courting me hard core lol...30-40k base plus commission...and get my CFP or CFA (Unlike other shops they actually advise people...not just sell product)..
- Go to grad school and get a MSF or an MBA from my school...it would take 2 years and 16k a year...economically this would be good because i can still live at home or at dorms and learn the finance that i have yet to learn...i dont know nothing about technical finance...i am really good with overall finance and good with economics but i dont think i could put together a pitch book as of yet...
*Also if i stay here for2 more years...i would get work experience (hopefully at the VC firm)...and beef up my resume a lil more and just apply for analyst programs when i get my MSF or MBA
What would you do and y?????
Thanks for the help
I dont wana sound weak but i am just of thinking about giving up...its so hard coming from a non-ivy background...i just dont know what to do..maybe i should just "settle" and take the asset management job...i mean its decent...but my heart aint in it...i want to learn the ropes in an investment banking or sales and trading outfit.... :(
Network man. Just network. Anyone and everyone you can get your hands on. I'm a senior at a complete non-target and I just got an offer last week at a BB. Have some back ups, but don't quit just yet.
And I have no BB SA experience. Just some middle market stuff.
