GRE Scores for MFEs

Do admissions officials at top tier MFE programs care about the verbal part of the GRE?

Specifically, I have an 800Q, and will likely get a good writing score, but my verbal is usually between 600-650. Since I'm a native speaker, this may not look that good.

Would I be better off just taking the GMAT, if my GRE detracted from my application?

Thanks!

Isn't GMAT the go to in the United States while GRE is more for overseas programs? I have heard that if you are a native speaker the essay part of the GMAT isn't really looked at, but you still have to do well on the verbal. Since you are looking for a MFin then quant scores will be key, but you will still need to have decent verbal. I am not familiar with how the GRE is scored. If your score is within normal ranges then it shouldn't be an issue, but then again certain schools might have GRE scores they target.

Nothing like GRE is for overseas programs. All the prestigious MFEs mostly accept GRE for their admissions(very few accept both)..so do not think about GMAT..

Hi Myrmidon,

I had the same prob but admission officers normally don't care about GRE verbal given the vocab involved is a joke. Double check with the school you're applying to -- that's what I did, and I was assured they would not look at the verbal part when assessing international applications.

Good luck.

I'm not international; I was born in the US, and currently to go college here. I am just nervous because a 600V seems really bad, at least for top programs.

Thanks for all the input guys!
