Has anyone ever seen a MSF success story? (US)
I read a lot on this forum and other places that MSF programs are a good backup plan for people who struck out on FT recruiting their senior year to get another shot, but I really haven't seen anyone post about their wins in these programs.
Does anyone have any stories of how they used a MSF to make a comeback?
How do people who enter MSF without any IB internships land offers? Isn't IBD recruitment mostly wrapped up before these 1-year programs start in the Summer/Fall?
MIT, Vanderbilt, and a few others have good outcomes, but there really isn't much information out there on the successes of the lesser programs.
There's a really sharp fall off past Vandy, MIT, Nova and to a lesser extent USC from what I've seen.
is Nova that strong?
Their outcomes report is extremely bare bones with very little information, and, anecdotally, I haven't seen anyone post their successful experience at the program

It's so hard to tell if programs outside of the top 2 are inflating their numbers or exaggerating how good their program is because 1 or 2 kids who already had summer internships before their program started landed offers.
I can't prove this but my theory is the tier 2 programs throw 75%+ scholarships at these SAs to boost their numbers, and the students who really need the boost from an MSF get shafted and pay full tuition and struggle to place into "high finance".
absolutely on your last point. finance turns into corp finance at best and sometimes retail banking...
Personal story, graduated 2020 COVID, no jobs went got an MSF at non target, currently work ER. Not banking I know and COVID outlier but nothings impossible just have to get in with the right people
Thanks for sharing! Did you have ER internships beforehand, or did you just learn and network?
Got all my ER internships when I was in MSF program, did 3 concurrent non-paid internships 2 doing bespoke projects for family office hedge funds. 1 in PE. Those connections did not help me at all but the experience and desire to be in ER stood out to decision makers. I think because of the nature of the business and always being “plugged in” you have to really seem to want it (love markets, stock picking, etc.)
If you want to get an offer you have to do networking/recruiting way before you even start. Do NOT expect the career office to do anything for you. Did one of these programs and the only kid who got a good FT IB job got the offer in August before the program even started; they started networking 4-5 months prior to even stepping foot on campus.
