Have i fucked up by going warwick?

Hi all, my plan was to do history and pol at oxford and then move into IB via that, many of my friends have done that, but ive now been rejected and firmed warwick for history. Have i fucked up now? should i take a gap year and reapply with my better grades?

Are you a transfer applicant? Waiting might not be the worst idea, but I would only do that if Warwick is a major step down that will have a very significant and detrimental impact to your recruiting efforts.

No...you have not "fucked up". Warwick is not Oxbridge / LSE, but it's still on the target list for plenty of IBs, including the BBs.

Remember that, assuming you're a capable individual, you should find it easier to gain positions in student societies than at Oxbridge, where you'll be competing with a lot more politics aspirationals. Also, the fact that you're even thinking about IB puts you well ahead of your peers for recruitment.

Do your networking, applications forms, spring weeks, etc., like everyone else, and you'll stand a similar change.

As a reminder, reapplying does not guarantee you a seat at Oxbridge, and it will be a year of your life used up. By the way, if you actually want to do a gap year for it's own sake, or have cool plans, and can afford it, then by all means go nuts. I wish I'd done one to see the world a bit more. But don't do it because Warwick is "inferior".
