IU Kelley vs. UIUC Gies

I'm looking to transfer schools and I need some safety schools so I saw IU and UIUC. I dont know which one to pick nor really the vibe at either. I was hoping there were some IU or UIUC kids who're working BB who'd tell me which would be a good pick for me.

You can't go wrong either way. I personally went to UIUC over Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan purely based on in-state tuition (basically half the cost). Michigan probably would've made it easier to get my foot in the door within a BB, but those that put in the work to maintain a high GPA, understand how to approach networking for opportunities early on and have excellent people skills can certainly get there.

Yeah I’m OOS which is why I’m having some trouble I don’t know what the vibe is like very well at either school which leaves kind of shooting in the dark. How was your experience at UIUC?

Great college experience at UIUC. Those that are driven to get into IBD have all the tools at their disposal. A few key resources to look into:

  • Getting certified through the various free evening programs you can sign up for at the computer lab within the business school. There are 16 Bloomberg terminals and numerous courses you can take
  • Getting into the Investment Banking Academy effectively guarantees you internships/full-time offers at a top investment bank. You need to stand out by Sophomore year with a high GPA and extracurriculars just to get an interview and then go through a very competitive interview process to get in
  • Make sure to take the Finance course elective literally called "Investment Banking" during your junior or senior year (FIN 463)

Of course there are many other factors to consider, but those are just some highlights to note. Indiana has similar/identical resources as well.
