I didn't even do that. Reason being that all my business classes were so easy I never went. Instead I had a math professor write one, that was a class that I had to work in, so I was there everyday, and I always had the highest grade in the class on our tests. He also saw me help those around me and I was engaged in the class discussion. The other rec was from an adviser for a club I was involved in and I didn't even have her for class. This worked out well for me because both of them knew me pretty well.

Excellent question. In a perfect world, yes, you would have a LOR from a professor in the major you wish to transfer into. However, the reality is that your recommenders should know you well enough to opine on your candidacy in good detail, support your story themes and wow factors, highlight your strengths and mitigate any weaknesses.

So, if these recommenders come from professors in other study areas – or recommenders who are not professors at all – that can be optimal for your candidacy.

Best of luck with your applications!

Sincerely,
