MSc in Finance for a Swiss student (LSE/Oxford/LBS/HEC)
I just graduated in Economics and Management at my local Swiss university. I would love to complete a master degree in finance in a top European university. I think I am going to apply to uni such as LSE, Oxford, LBS and HEC Paris. I would love to hear from your experience if you participated to such programs and if you think my profile could be competitive to be admitted.
I finished with a GPA of 5.84/6 in the Swiss system which is a great result that got me the prize for the best GPA of my promotion. I also was selected to participate to a honors program during which I assisted Economics professors in their research. I did a full time internship during my last year of bachelor in a wealth management private bank in Switzerland and it is my only finance related professional experience. However, I am a French native and had only a 7.5 in IELTS and got a 327 GRE (165Q, 162V). I don’t think these are great scores and I know the admission are so competitive. Additionally, I am not very good at writing statement of purpose and don’t really know what to include in these.
Do you guys think my profile could be competitive ? Is there any other programs I should also target ? Do you have advices on how to write these essays ? Thanks.
LBS MFA GMAT avg is around 700, so you're there. You have 1 work experience, so its alright. Got average chances.
Oxford MFE the GMAT scores are usually around like 750 iirc, so you're out a bit there plus its an extremely quant program fyi.
LSE I'd say you have average chances again.
HEC idk. Have you considered HSG? Where do you want to work? London? Swiss?
Thanks for the answer ! I would prefer to start my career in London (eventually move back to Switzerland when I am older). Yes I considered HSG as one of my safe option (since as a Swiss student they don’t require GMAT/GRE) if I am not admitted to any of my preferred programs. A very close friend of mine is finishing his MBF in HSG and I know he is having a real tough time finding great professional opportunities so I don’t really know what to think of this program. I forgot to mentioned that in the original post but I would like to work in « deal-based » finance (IB/PE/etc…) so maybe you guys know which program are the most « target » in UK/Europe for these jobs.
