Need advice on best path to investment banking with Texas schools
I have spent a ridiculous amount of time thinking about this and wondering what to do...Currently a freshman in college... I am from Texas and had plans to go to IU after getting direct admission to Kelley. Unfortunately I was in a car accident and had to turn that offer down. As a result, I am spending my freshman year a total non target (UTD) and plan to transfer out after this semester...Which path would put me in better position... SMU Cox or UT Austin Economics BEOP, meaning I would get a Finance minor with that Econ major...I feel relatively good about my connections and networking which I have already.I would have loved to go to IU but at this point, there's too much I am dealing with from the car accident in terms of medical issues, treatment, legal, etc. It does not make sense to go to IU or anywhere out of state with all that ongoing.(I actually transferred to IU this Spring but came back to Dallas after 2 weeks because my health from the accident was worsening... pretty much helped me understand I need to stay in state lol)Anyways... for those who work in the industry in Texas or know it well and know these schools well, please let me know which way to go. I would greatly appreciate any possible bit of advice or guidance since I am really struggling with this decision. Feel free to ask any questions if needed... I will be active on here checking all responses pretty quicklyThank you so much!
At SMU right now and received multiple first rounds and superdays and am going to a bank in NY. Most of my friends who wanted to do investment banking also landed internships.
If you are interested in doing energy investment banking, SMU is a strong target for Houston. If you have a 3.7+ and at least one finance related internship(preferable PE/IB/HF) before you apply for SA internships, I would say you have a pretty fair chance to get a EB or BB internship. Alts is not necessary but helps a lot.
