RSM vs HKUST

Hey,

I am currently a first year undergraduate student at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM). Which is an OK school. I believe it’s a semi-target if not target for London.

I am aiming for investment banking in Hong Kong. I know that HK loves US/UK targets.
I also know it’s nearly impossible to transfer to an US/UK target schools, so I won’t even bother applying to those schools.

However, I am able to transfer to HKUST Business School (Hong Kong). But I will have to start from year 1 (which means that I will waste one year at RSM). I believe the HKUST Business School places quite well for HK banking.
Do you guys think it is worth to transfer into year 1 of HKUST? And does HKUST place well in London? (For if I eventually decide that I don’t want to work in HK)

Or should I just stay at RSM?

BTW, RSM is 3 years whereas HKUST is 4 years.

I would like to hear your opinions.

Thanks.

P.S. I am Chinese and I am able to speak Cantonese and Mandarin, so language proficiency is not a problem. Also, I am able to work in Europe but not in Hong Kong and I don’t know if HK banks provides analysts with working visas.

Can you do one/a couple semesters abroad and/or intern in HK? That way you would be able to network in HK while still only spending 3 yrs in university. Also, RSM may give more credibility to your English skills.

I know a French-Asian who is interning at a European bank's branch in HK. So it's definitely manageable.

Yes, I can do one semester at HKUST.

And I don't know about finding an internship in HK. I don't think employers will provide me with a working Visa if they can just hire someone from a Hong Kong university (at least that's what I'm thinking).

How did your friend manage to find an internship in HK. Did he just network his way in? Did he go to a target school? Also, did the employer provide him/her with a working Visa or did he/she already have one?
