SMU or TAMU

Hey y’all, I was wondering which school would set me up better for finance? I will be applying to college next year and would like to stay in Texas for college. I will be ranked in the top ten percent but I will not be top 6% for UT. I still will apply to UT McCombs even though my chances of acceptance is low. I hear all this talk about investment banking, but I know there are a lot of other options. I don’t want to be hyper focused on career choices when I haven’t even gone to college yet.

SMU and it's not really a competition. Don't get me wrong, TAMU is a great school - but SMU is a finance school. SMU has great placements all across the finance industry and across the country. If you do decide you want to do IB, SMU is a target school that consistently sends kids to top firms (if you get into the Alts program).

SMU has good placement historically, I won't deny that. However, unless you get good scholarships you may end up spending a fortune.

A&M has good programs that set you up well for IB roles in Houston/NYC, with more students being sent there every year. Programs like Aggies on Wall Street and Horizons will make you a competitive candidate. You can check past placement for the Horizons program here. A&M's presence is growing and you'll most likely walk out of school spending a lot less while also having more fun.

Either way, make the choice that's best for you.
