Target school non-diverse males...focus on EBs?
Let me preface by stating I know how competitive EBs are and you need technicals, behaviorals, and networking on locks. However, after hearing of these astronomical statistics mainly at BBs, is it smart for someone with my profile to direct most of my efforts to EBs or maybe even MM/UMM/ buyside? Do they have the same agenda/boxes to check when it comes to substantially recruiting women and minorities? Don't want this to come across as venting or any of that, I just really want to be prepared when the landscape is obviously changing.
I have a 3.8 after freshman year at a target, a regional middle market M&A IB internship starting next week, and most people I've spoken with in IB and PE consistently tell me I'm "ahead of the game."
If you're asking if they fill up at least half of their class with diversity, yes.
PJT has their women's and black students program. PWP has the women and diversity summit. CVP has a women's program. EVR has a diversity symposium or some shit. Lazard have women's and diversity day's. Moelis has the Young Leader's Diversity programs or whatever.
That being said, as a non-diverse male at a target, I focused on networking at EBs and it ended up great for me. You pass the vibe check and you'll get a first round. Ended up superdaying at all the EBs and will be working at one of EVR/CVP.
Get your GPA up. EBs will want to see 3.9+ for non-diverse candidates.
Get it up to 3.9?? Guessing the 3.5 and you’re fine rule is a thing of the past? Thought that we were safe with a 3.7+ for top firms.
BBs are less strict on GPA.
With covid mickey mouse gpas everyone has a 3.9 these days - you're at a huge disadvantage being below 3.8
edit: I am wrong srry
I’m a freshman…we had no virtual classes so your point isn’t valid. I get what you mean for the class above me who had everything easier for them, including a very easy admissions year.
Good point my bad fella. At my school some classes still do exams online but realizing this isn't typical lol
buyside definitely… I got a top hedge fund offer but struck after first rounds at Mizuho, BMO, Raymond James, etc
