Yale SOM (NO $) vs NYU Stern (NO $)
Found out I have been admitted to both schools, and for both I will be paying sticker price. I do not come from a high income family, and will likely have to take on loans / try and get scholarships.
My background is 3 years of work experience as a CPA in the finance services industry. My immediate post graduation goal would be to get into MBB or something in finance (IB, Asset Management, etc). To be honest, I am still trying to figure out what exactly I would like to recruit into directly out of the MBA program.
My long term goal would be to work as a CFO/CEO of a fortune 100 firm. I would appreciate any advice on this as to whether MBB or a finance role post graduation (FLDP, IB, AM, etc) would be better for my long term goal.
If you were in my shoes, which school would you pick?
I am quite young, and so I could reapply in 2 - 3 years and perhaps get into HSW, but to be honest I would rather join a program now. Job recruiting has been quite tough and likely I will end up in another accounting role and pigeonhole myself into accounting even further.
I would appreciate any input on - how fun the school is, how the city life is, expenses, culture and types of people who go there, etc.
As I consider these options, I am slightly edging towards SOM. Higher ranking program, much better name recognition (matters to me), cheaper both in tuition and living expenses, I enjoy the emphasis put on international exposure, I look forward to taking classes in undergrad/law program. However, living in NYC, though it will cost me probably an additional $100k in loans over two years, is something that I would enjoy doing. I am not dead set on staying in NYC post graduation, I am from West Coast originally, and so perhaps those two years would be great to enjoy NYC. Also, the GMAT score being higher in NYU shows how much others value the school/location in NYC. In case it matters, I plan on studying abroad for a semester at either institution.
Please let me know of any input as to which program you would pick or your experiences at either university. I would greatly appreciate any advice, thanks!
