(Asia-Pac) 2 pay scales - 1 for locals, 1 for expats
I am a 2nd year S&T analyst at a Canadian bank in Singapore/Hong Kong.
Some of the guys on the floor frequently scan individual tax documents at the office scanner out of convenience. As such, i have knowledge of their pay packages.
I was shocked to find out that there are essentially 2 pay scales, 1 for locals and 1 for expats. The gap between the 2 is huge. In addition, expats get all sort of generous allowances such as housing, tuition for kids, air travel etc.
Is this normal???
For most of the firms (especially BB), I have always assumed that its 1 global pay scale across all locations except india office.
