also don’t worry about this right now the bigger problem if your actually sparring is adrenaline crashes and just feeling rocked - maybe i am just a pussy but i hated getting punched in the face and then having to go to class the next day so so so much that i only grapple during the semester
Yea i used to in school, got many weird questions. Now in college/ internship, have switched to a diff sport (little to no contact), still get weird questions when I get injured, especially from the very sedentary, non-athletic folks.
Used to do BJJ whilst working (pre-covid) found that you tend to get more bruises on your arms and legs rather than face so quite easy to continue as normal. However when sparing for MMA this is when the bruises would be quite visible. Had to drop MMA and stick to BJJ
Ive been doing muay thai for a few years. I used to spar with no headgear and several times had to go to the office bruised and got bantered by my guy colleagues. Nowadays I always wear one and it prevents bruises quite well.
My take is that unless you have to face clients nobody will care too much. Otherwise, you can always use foundation makeup to hide it. Honestly, it does wonders.
Also consider that hard sparring is generally not the best way to practice your technique so if you are getting bruised a lot it may be a sign that you need to tone it down a bit.
Dropped the muay thai exactly for this reason. Stuck with BJJ.
How long did you do muay thai for and how was your experience with BJJ so far?
Not long, probably 6 months of muay thai and just into year 2 for BJJ.
I do miss muay thai but can't afford the risk of bruising. BJJ is super fun, I do no gi with a bit of sambo mixed in. Great workout and quite technical which I find interesting.
Terrible idea, you’re in a career where you are expected to perform at 110% everyday intellectually. Dont risk mush brain from combat sports
